PREPARING FOR AN INSTALLATION

Installing new flooring can significantly enhance the look and feel of your home. Proper preparation is crucial to ensure smooth and successful installation. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you prepare.

PREPARING FOR FLOORING INSTALLATION

• DURING INSTALLATION: The person responsible for making decisions on this project is on hand for questions or problems should arise either in person or by phone.
• REMOVE FURNITURE AND DECOR: Take out all the furniture, décor items, breakables, such as lamps, vases, mirrors, pictures, antiques or other valuables, rugs from the room from areas affected by installation work. Store them in another area to prevent any damage.
• DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT: Disconnect and remove all electronic equipment, including televisions, stereos and computers.
• MOVE FURNITURE: If you are not having the installers move your furniture, please have the furniture removed the day before so that the space is ready for the installer. If left installer will charge to move the items. They will not move electronics, piano's, pool tables.
• IF YOU ARE REMOVING CARPETING YOURSELF: Please remove all the staples from the subfloor completely. (If carpet is going back in… installer will re-use the tack strips. No need to remove.
• EXISTING CARPET should be vacuumed and free of debris if the installer is contracted to remove/haul/dispose.
• IF CARPET IS FOUND to be saturated from pet urine or other objectionable materials or contains insect infestations and not discussed a head of time before installation it will be turned away and therefore the customer's responsibility. The installation schedule will be adjusted accordingly.
• THE EXISTING CARPET needs to be removed and hauled away from the work site prior to the installer's arrival if not contracted for this work to be done by the installer. The work area needs to have access to electricity.
• ALLOW INSTALLER ACCESS to the path of lease resistance into the home. Create a clear path to and through your home for access of materials to the installation area and removal of debris.
• DRYWALL OR PLASTER PROJECTS are completed well before carpet installation.
• AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING AND VENTILATION SYSTEM need to be functioning 24 hours prior to installation, keep the temperature between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
• PLANNING AHEAD on how you'll keep children and pets safe and away from construction areas and doors that could be open to the outside.
• DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS, rain, snow, ice and mud cleared within reason from the drive and entrance to the home. If needed a garage could be used, please clean and clear the space if needed.
• ELECTRICAL WIRES running under carpet or along baseboards and door casing are removed. If they are permanent, please be sure to point them out to the installer.
• THIS IS A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT, so it can be noisy, and some materials might be used that produce noise, strong odors. Those that have respiratory considerations or sensitive to dust and other allergens should avoid the construction area until the job is done and clean-up is complete. New flooring can have a smell & will dissipate over time.
• PLEASE UNDERSTAND that carpet backing is very abrasive. Painted base boards, woodwork and painted areas may need retouching after the installation is complete and is solely the customer's responsibility.
• INSTALLERS MAY REMOVE INTERIOR DOORS during the installation and will re-hang them, if possible, it is your responsibility to trim doors and re-hang if re-sizing is necessary, this includes failure of existing hardware due to being aged/fragile/faulty.
• SECURE all personal items and valuables.
• NOT RESPONSIBLE: It is not our responsibility to remedy squeaky sub floors or wall structures, as well as any problems that arise due to pre-existing conditions such as asbestos, mold or building code violations.
• UNFORESEEN SITE CONDITIONS: Occasionally, we discover concealed damage that is revealed only after removal of the existing flooring, conditions such as water or termite damage, electrical or plumbing problems and insect infestations. Some situations must be corrected prior to completing the project and will affect the schedule of your installation and possibly require additional labor and materials which will add to your installation cost and the schedule adjusted accordingly.

AFTER INSTALLATION

• Be sure to change your air filters.
• Know how to take care of your new carpet. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions which can be found online or request from the salesperson. If you have a warranty, following the instructions will help you to maintain it and will always help you keep your flooring looking its best.
• When having your flooring professional cleaned every year keep your receipts.
• The right kind of vacuum is very important. Buying guides are available on the Carpet and Rug Institutes website in case the one you have doesn't make the cut.
